Areas of Interest: Breastfeeding, infant feeding, effective/ineffective suck, tongue function,
comfortable latch/painful latch, milk supply, and everything in between
Laura is a Registered Nurse (RN) and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Ottawa in 2007 and became a lactation consultant in 2012. Laura has 16 years experience in multiple roles as a hospital based postpartum/mother baby nurse where her passion for breastfeeding first began, a clinical teacher for both RN and RPN nursing students, and a hospital based lactation consultant.
Laura understands the simplicities and complexities of breastfeeding and infant feeding as well as the ease and challenges it may present. She enjoys working with parents to tailor their individual needs to meet their own feeding goals. Laura uses evidence based knowledge and strong clinical assessment skills to help identify, address and manage patient concerns.
Welcoming all individuals without judgment or pressure and providing open, supportive care is a standard by which Laura practices. She is passionate about supporting new parents and babies while building their confidence, knowledge and skills.
Her own personal experiences and challenges with breastfeeding have only deepened Laura’s passion and commitment to protecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding and infant feeding. Laura has a profound understanding of how difficult, frustrating, convenient, magical and comfortable breastfeeding can be. With her expertise, empathy and experience Laura strives to inform, support and empower all parents with the dynamic adventure of breastfeeding and infant feeding.
Committed to learning, Laura attends yearly breastfeeding conferences and courses. Laura has
an interest in continued education about a broad range of breastfeeding challenges, issues, and
associated challenges in order to further expand her knowledge, understanding and ability to
best help her patients.
In her free time, Laura enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She enjoys playing with her kids, outdoor activities, swimming, biking, cooking and watching movies.
