Pilates
Pilates is a repertoire of low impact core-based exercises created originally for dancers in the 1920s by Joseph Pilates. The exercises are performed on a mat or a reformer with various props and resistances designed to improve physical strength, mobility and flexibility.
Both one on one and small group mat Pilates classes are offered, with the reformer (a pulley and spring system machine) offering additional core-building benefits for individuals only.
A more individualized program can be created providing a tailor-made program designed with exercises on the mat and reformer, and with small equipment. Our Pilates instructors have been trained and mentored by our advanced practice Physiotherapists, providing a more holistic and integrative paradigm to your other training and fitness methods.
This is a wonderful modality for athletes, recreational hobbyist, desk jockeys, and even those recovering from injury (including pregnancy) or living with a chronic ailment or disease.
Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a holistic manual practice, that honours the body’s intrinsic power to auto-regulate any imbalance in the body. Osteopathic treatments aim to stimulate the body’s built-in mechanism for healing.
A pillar in osteopathy is the concept that healthy function of any tissue (bone, muscle, viscera, dural membranes, fascia, etc.) depends on its structural integrity. For example, an organ must be free to move in its physiological axis to carry out its function effectively. One of the goals in osteopathy is to regain mobility in structures to ensure their optimal function.
An emphasis is also placed on healthy circulation of lymph, blood, cerebrospinal fluid and nerve signal transmission. Osteopathic treatment stimulates fluid flow for better waste removal and nutrient supply.
Furthermore, an osteopathic manual practitioner does not treat symptoms or conditions, but rather the individual as a whole. When developing a treatment plan, all facets of a person are considered and honoured whether physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual.
Various therapeutic modalities are used to achieve the above-mentioned principles of osteopathy, including osteoarticular assessment and normalizations, visceral manipulation, craniosacral therapy, myofascial release and more.
Yoga Therapy
Yoga therapy is the professional application of the principles and practices of Yoga to promote health and well-being within a therapeutic relationship. This includes personalized assessment, goal setting, lifestyle management and yoga practices for individuals or small groups and uses the Pancha Maya Kosha Framework; interweaving the 5 layers of the body including Physical, Energetic, Mental/Emotional, Learned Wisdom, and Spiritual – creating connection and meaning along with therapeutic growth and recovery.
