Pegah Akbari

Clinical Practice Area: Orthopedics &  Women’s & Pelvic Health

Areas of Interest: Women’s health, pediatrics, and general musculoskeletal conditions

Pegah has had a longstanding passion for women’s health which first led her to complete a research masters at the University of Ottawa (2018) where she explored physiological responses to exercise during pregnancy. Wanting to bring her academic background into the clinical world and directly help individuals, she then pursued her Masters of Science in Physical Therapy at the University of Toronto (2022). It was here where she was able to combine her passions and to help empower individuals through knowledge of the human body and an understanding of the power of movement and exercise. While her clinical focus revolves around women’s and pelvic health, Pegah draws on her diverse clinical experiences including acute care and pediatrics to help her maintain a wholistic, and whole body approach to her treatment of individuals throughout the lifespan.

In her work, Pegah places an emphasis on providing client-driven, individualized care through focused assessments and tailored treatment plans to help patients not only achieve their lifestyle goals, but also to gain confidence and restore autonomy. Pegah incorporates education, manual therapy and therapeutic exercises in treating a wide variety of conditions.

Outside of work Pegah enjoys winding down by biking, canoeing, and baking, while also challenging herself to learn new skills including snowboarding and playing the piano. She recognizes the importance of embracing new challenges and learning through movement and is passionate about helping women, men and children maximize their quality of life, both at work and through play.

When she isn’t treating clients, Pegah takes opportunities to continue learning new concepts that assist her therapeutic principles of rehabilitation and physical resilience through evidence-based approaches. Pegah has completed specialized pelvic health training through Pelvic Health Solutions including Level 1 (focusing on treatment of urinary incontinence) and Level 2 (focusing on approaching treatment through whole-person considerations of pain and trauma). Pegah is also expanding her therapeutic knowledge through completing courses in aquatic therapy as a means of treatment for a wide variety of patient populations and conditions.
