WAY MORE THAN ONE ON ONE YOGA
Yoga Therapy is the professional application of the principles and practices of Yoga to promote health and well-being within a therapeutic relationship towards holistically integrating particular spiritual, psychological, or physiological goals and experiences. Using the Pancha Maya Kosha Framework (Physical, Energetic/Emotional, Mental, Learned Wisdom, and Spiritual layers of a person), Yoga Therapists individually assess and provide support in: lifestyle management, widening somatic, sensory and cognitive awareness through interoceptive, nocioceptive and proprioceptive yoga inquiry and movement practices that more specifically and therapeutically create connection as well as meaning for the whole person. Treatment is provided one on one or in small groups only.
In addition to the basic 200-500 hour entry level Yoga Teacher Training, Yoga Therapists have undergone extensive certified training that feature over 800 hours of coursework, therapeutic practice, and experiential learning. More specifically, Jennifer’s curriculum at the School of Embodied Yoga Therapy (https://www.embodiedyogatherapy.com/curriculum) has “a solid foundation informed by yoga philosophy and āyurvedic practice, based in scientific research, professional experience, and somatic principles. Using an integrative, holistic and creative approach, students study and work respectfully and compassionately with a wide scope of life experiences including physical injury, complex and chronic pain, trauma, mental health, disease (cancer, diabetes, heart and respiratory illness), birth, dying, & grief through embodied living.”
Yoga Therapy may be covered by some private extended health benefits. Jennifer Gillean is a registered member with AQTN(Association Québécoise des Thérapeutes Naturels).
